PSHE, RE and Relationships

Jigsaw PSHE at Grove Primary School

Our Rationale

At Grove Primary School and Nursery we are mindful!

We want our pupils to love Jigsaw PSHE. We want them to have no limits to what their ambitions are and grow up wanting to be carers, psychologists, social workers, sociologists, or teachers! We want them to embody our core values and be resilient. We want to develop their sense of mindfulness.

We all believe that we can: “Bring Out the Best in Everyone”.

The Jigsaw PSHE scheme of work has been carefully selected so that our children develop their mental and physical health. We want our children to remember their Jigsaw PSHE lessons in our school, to cherish these memories and embrace the opportunities they are presented with!

Your Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)

We respect the choices of all families. Under UK law, parents and carers have the right to ask for their child to be withdrawn from some or all Religious Education (RE) lessons. You don’t need to give a reason, and we will always support your decision.

If you choose to withdraw your child, they will still be supervised in school during RE lessons. While we’re not required to provide alternative lessons, you’re welcome to share any work you’d like your child to do during this time.

If you’d like to discuss this or make a request, please contact the school office.

Jigsaw Overview

Our Vision

As Jigsaw PSHE Coordinator I want to encourage all children to be unique, positive, mindful individuals. Personal, social and health education forms an integral part of the curriculum at Grove Primary. It helps to give pupils the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active, responsible citizens. All members of staff are committed to encouraging the children to develop an understanding of right and wrong and to take responsibility for their own behaviour. We use the Jigsaw scheme as a basis for our PHSE teaching and learning.

Jigsaw offers a comprehensive Programme for Primary PSHE including statutory Relationships and Health Education, in a spiral, progressive and fully planned scheme of work, giving children relevant learning experiences to help them navigate their world and to develop positive relationships with themselves and others.

With strong emphasis on emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health, Jigsaw properly equips schools to deliver engaging and relevant PSHE within a whole-school approach. Jigsaw lessons also include mindfulness allowing children to advance their emotional awareness, concentration and focus.
